Last year I was lucky enough to be able to spend the New Year in Paris. We were there from 28th December 2016-2nd January 2017 and we spent New Year’s Eve in Disneyland.
I felt like Princess Anna with my hair in plaits. We spent the day before in Walt Disney Studios but on New Year’s Eve itself, we were in Disneyland. We were there from about 10am & stayed to watch the fireworks at midnight!
It was freezing cold! I don’t think I have ever felt so cold in my life & I was shivering but I simply couldn’t miss it. Spending New Year’s Eve in Disneyland with the best friend that is my boyfriend, could it be more perfect?! (Only if it was above freezing!)
During the day we went on many rides, explored the different areas, watched the parade! By tea-time we were getting tired, but we pushed on. After tea is when the park usually closes however as it was New Year’s Eve they stayed open keeping the rides running.
The queues were insane but we were expecting that being a peak time of year. After 6pm, the rides alternated closing and reopening times to give the staff a break which meant everyone was going on the same rides at the same time. Luckily, most of the rides we wanted to go on had most of the queuing indoors!
Our favourite ride was Space Mountain which I was surprised at. I love rides but my boyfriend is a little more reserved when it comes to the big ones but he loved it too!
I had the most beautiful day & it was fun doing something a little different on New Year’s Eve. I love spending it at home, but it was great!
After the midnight fireworks, we headed off to the train station to get back to our hotel. This was were it got a little crazy. The crowds were mad. We were one of the first maybe 50 people on the platform but people kept coming & pushing & the police were there as crowd control with German Shepherds (I have a fear of dogs, especially big ones). I panicked, I asked my boyfriend if we could find a different way back. I had a bad feeling that people would get crushed (they didn’t that we know of) and I just had to get out of there.
We ended up in a big group of people waiting to get a taxi & ended up in one with about 3 strangers but we didn’t mind. Once I got into the taxi, I felt more relaxed & started to reflect on what a great day we’d had.
Once we got back to the hotel it was past 1am so I FaceTimed my parents who were having a party in the house & they’d just come in from celebrating midnight (because of the time difference) and we had a lovely chat.
It has been probably the best New Year’s Eve of my life.
Have you ever spent New Year’s Eve differently to your usual tradition?
